Thesi Pool Loveseat

{cb2}

We plan on moving within a year or so which has sort of forced a self-inflicted "no furniture buying" policy. Then of course, like clockwork, all I find are pieces that I have to have now. West Elm has been putting out the vibes for a couple of weeks but shut the front door when I saw this sassy little CB2 number! Perfect... for the foot of our king size bed in our new house perhaps? Lust.

Save the Dates

Start checking your mail; the Save the Dates went out today! We spent yesterday evening addressing, stamping - with love stamps of course, stuffing, and sealing. I snapped this picture when our eyes were heavy from working but happy to have it completed. Another thing to check off the list!

Instragram life

Our instragram life appears to be heavily food influenced. I am such a sucker for Huynh's crawfish and blue crab (they were absolutely delicious, clearly we love garlic), a champion's breakfast of hard-boiled eggs, and snacking on peas. When we haven't been eating, we've been playing some old school games and watching two beautiful girls dance ballet and tap at their recital. They did such a wonderful job! Absolutely adorable and worth the heat (because it. was. hot.). Summer is definitely here and in full swing. Happy Tuesday!!

Weekend, recap

We had such a good weekend! Friday, we worked to make up time for next Friday when we head down to NASA! We are trying to save as many vacation days as possible for that little thing we call getting married. Speaking of, we made a lot of decisions regarding said nuptials: we ordered the invitations, addressed the Save the Date magnets, finalized addresses, decided on what the ring bearer and flower girls will be carrying, and even started on the Out-of-Town bags. The house got some help too: Huynh worked on the backyard and I even painted a desk. I also managed to whip up some turkey meatloaf - it tasted a lot better than it looked - and pan fried kale. Delish. We also had a side of broccoli, cauliflower, and rice casserole - I made the binding ingredient out of a cheese sauce made with chipotle Gouda and blue cheese. It was amazing (and I never say that about my almost always too starchy cheese sauces).

Sunday, we headed to The Woodlands to see my nieces perform in a ballet recital. My unbiased opinion? They were the cutest girls there! They did such a great job. Today, we are celebrating Memorial Day by shopping. Can it get any better than that?

Memorial Day Weekend

This weekend is so much more than a three-day start to summer. On Memorial Day, we will commemorate our troops who have risked their lives in defense of our freedom and give thanks to the men and women who have devoted their lives to the cause greater then themselves. Thank you to our troops! We support you and love you all the same. Have a good long weekend - enjoy!

The number of females on Pinterest versus males is amazing. To think, I had a part of it!

Warby Parker

We got out at home try on kit of Warby Parker glasses yesterday and couldn't be more thrilled! I love trying on new glasses - Huynh has more pairs of glasses than I care to say - but the concept behind Warby Parker is definitely something that we can stand behind. We each ordered five different frames and tried on all ten then decided on one each!

And the winners are...

Nerds everywhere.

Dinner

One of the unwritten benefits of having your wedding ceremony and reception at The Wynden is the perk of having a meal on the house at their restaurant, Masraff's. While not our menu tasting for our reception - that will happen closer to the big date, this little meal was in honor of us and in celebration of our upcoming nuptials (which we toasted to twice). My colossal crab with avocado on a tempura battered vine ripe yellow tomato with caramelized onion and horseradish aioli handily beat Huynh's Boston wedge salad, English cucumber relish, feta cheese and aged balsamic during the appetizer round but Huynh staged a comeback during the entree round with his house cured Berkshire pork chop, mashed potatoes, ginger braised red cabbage, pineapple confit, and char sue glaze beating my Peking duck breast, sweet potato and apple bacon hash topped with foie gras and a bing cheery gastrique. We shared the molton chocolate eruption with ice cream for dessert and declared our dinner competition a tie.

A very delicious tie.

Weekend, recap

I'm embarrassed to admit how little we actually did this weekend... we were wonderfully lazy. We did manage to begin to move the office back in the room and Huynh did work on the garage a bit but for the most part, we lounged on the couch watching Brothers and Sisters episodes while sporadically napping. Fabulous.

We did, however, have the best wine and cheese night - chipotle Gouda, 3-pepper Colby jack, muenster, and Gruyere paired with a granny smith apple. It was so delicious. I also grabbed us some green juice from H.E.B. - we'll see how it tastes! We ordered a team bucket of sunflower seeds from Amazon that got here on Friday for the out-of-town bags and Huynh was in heaven (it's a huge bucket). He is only allowed to have 20 bags out of the 60 so we shall see how much self control he has when it comes time to put together the bags ha! Happy Monday!

Some like it hot

Wedding planning is coming along rather well! We finally decided upon and ordered our Save the Dates - I brought my beast computer into the floor of the living room and refused to leave it until I pushed "Complete Order", I got my wedding dress hanger and return address embosser, and I managed to order so many other little things online that I have to keep a list of packages we have yet to receive on my phone (updated daily; currently there are eleven). Huynh asked the other day what I was up to and my response was "spending your money". HA! He appreciated it. People weren't kidding when they said it was always something - in the best of ways.

On top of it all, I have decided that we need to eat more homemade foods in an effort to be healthier. I bought this book, pinned this recipe, and plan on tackling our pantry this weekend - among other things that desperately need to be done to the casa. We are going to the Astros tonight and tomorrow is a birthday celebration for Meagan and her sister Amanda! I am excited. Happy Friday!

All that's missing is the raft part of white water rafting... ha!!

Guacamole!

There is very little that I love more than guacamole on a hot summers day. I keep mine pretty basic: mashed up avocado mixed with some spicy pico and served with tortilla chips (or even better, carrots and celery). Dig in!
  1. Zyliss Avocado Tool, $6.99
  2. Guac Off!, $10.06
  3. Avocado Slicer & Pitter, $15
  4. Wüsthof Classic Ikon 5" Tomato Knife, $69.95
  5. Raya Chip & Dip, $29.95
  6. Molcajete, $49.95
  7. Tostitos White Corn Tortilla Chips with Hint of Lime, $4.99
  8. Nito Chip & Dip Tray, $49
Psst... Happy Birthday, Meagan! Have a lovely day.

Cauliflower Soup

Meatless Monday came and went by way of a big bowl of cauliflower soup. I followed the recipe pretty exactly but halved the liquid ingredients - there is no way we could finish a quart of soup between the two of us much less two quarts of soup. I left the veggie quantities alone however which turned this soup into a chunky hunk of yum. All that was missing was the meat - it needed some spicy turkey sausage thrown into the mix. Next time (though preferably not on Monday)!

P.S. I had no idea how dark our house was last night until I saw the pictures this morning. Ooops.

Weekend, recap

Gatsby and I had such a good weekend!! And yes, we are still waiting on Huynh to wake up to ask him about his (ha!)... to be fair, his flight was delayed five+ hours and he finally got home last night a little before 4am! He's exhausted. But back to us: it's always so relaxing to head to Wichita Falls for the weekend. We slept in both mornings, had delicious home cooked meals, and even squeezed in some shopping. Gatsby even made for a good travel buddy with all of his napping mixed with general excitement.

I ordered some Disney World survival goodies on Amazon which arrived on Friday at which point I realized I bought enough Wet Ones to disinfect the entire park. At least we will be clean!! I also grabbed a bench and vanity table off of Craigslist and have big plans for them as well... they just need to dry out a tad before I get started.

Lindsey sent me a Godmother's Day card complete with artwork: it's us playing Busy Town, can't you tell? :). She's the best. I'm meeting her Mom for lunch today at the new Athleta store - I'm hoping to find a swim suit eek! Happy Monday!

Happy Mother's Day!

Gatsby and I are packing up and heading home to Wichita Falls to celebrate my favorite Mom. Have a good weekend!

Tease

Really, West Elm. You are going to play dirty. You know I already have a weakness for the Elton Settee. You know that I look at it almost daily. I was going to be good today... I wasn't going to place it in my shopping cart for the umpteenth time but then you had to go and tease me with your tracking and email ploys. You're right, I do in fact see something that I like on your site. A lot of things. And even though said settee would look great in the remodeled office, I have to resist. I have to resist the curved back with tufting... the dark legs and velvet fabric. Such a tease.

Office, begins

Last night we had to scramble like mad in order to completely clear out the office in preparation for the carpet guys to come bright and early this morning. They came, they saw, they stretched and it looks so much better... but now I am stuck with what to do with all the junk that came out of there! Tonight: organize, reevaluate, recycle, and start the move back in there. Time to tackle the office once and for all.

Corn, Avocado, and Tomato Salad

With my favorite food being queso, it probably comes as no surprise that I just like dips in general. We always have a bag of tortilla chips on hand and I have been known to eat them straight out of the bag (I'm sure it has everything to do with the salt) but pair those with a dip and I have been known to make it into a meal. This past weekend I made Paula's Corn, Avocado, and Tomato Salad following the recipe almost exactly - I omitted the zest and used all of the juice from the lime. It was delicious and refreshing and perfect for a complete dinner.

Weekend, recap

I am a firm believer that a future husband who cooks rice topped with steak and eggs and served with a side of cucumber is a keeper as evidenced this weekend. We both moaned after devouring this meal, rubbed our very full bellies, and tried to roll ourselves off the couch to have a more productive weekend and well, failed. Huynh was supposed to head to Ft. Worth but instead ended up coming down with a head cold that put him in bed most nights before 9 and left me to my own vices (i.e. wine with Gatsby while watching more episodes of Brothers and Sisters than I care to admit to). I didn't mind though - sometimes doing nothing is just what you need. Barnes and Noble is yet again trying to get me in trouble by creating an entire display dedicated to our honeymoon; I resisted but instead came home with this and this which are perfect for the plane (we have nearly completed this one). Huynh took me to Chuy's last night which gave me an excuse to dart over to Central Market to grab some salmon for tonight's dinner. I am such a sucker for the Chuy's Special. Yum. We also started getting some things together for Disney World - I grabbed some Nike Dri-Fit shirts and paired with these shorts, I realized I will be a beacon visible for miles. At least they will always know where I am!  Haaaa.

P.S. I did publish the wedding website! I have included a new link in the sidebar. Check it out in all its glory.

Simply not

{anek}

Snatched from their site "ANEK is all about the simple pleasure of food and cooking & beauty and joy of everyday moments." and I have to agree. The prints are just so beautifully simple... which is so unlike my weekend. I am hoping to reorganize our bathroom which will be a task in and of itself (before and after pictures to come!). Have a good one.

Website, maybe

{taken in January. needless to say, it looks
vastly different now...}

With the engagement pictures done and posted, it was high time that I got my booty in gear and finished up the wedding website. My family had already done their part by providing humorous responses to my "About my Attendants" request so the onus was on me to get all of it down on paper... err... the web. I scoured websites for some other good ideas and decided ultimately to build my own site in iWeb and publish through a third party hosting service (dang you iCloud and your lack of iWeb publishing). The domain has been purchased, hosting space has been procurred, and as for the site? Well, it is taking longer than I anticipated. I stayed up way too late last night, beyond any capacity of being about to proof read through foggy contacts so I have decided to hold off a day or two on publishing until my sanity returned. I mean, a girl can only listen to Ke$ha so many times before delirium sets in and dancing takes over. You know you've been there too.

Sooo still coming soon: www.sarahandhuynh.com! Be there or be square... you know... when it finally publishes. As always, I will keep you posted.

Five Things

Granted Anthropologie wear isn't ideal for Disney World (a mere 42 days away), I can't help but pick five things from their new catalog that needs to be in my closet or on the closest beach ASAP. They got it right this May - flowy and delicate, most are completely work inappropriate which is really what summer is all about.
